Eric Mboma is Group Executive Director – Subsidiaries and Affiliates of the African Guarantee Fund (AGF) and provides operational control of AGF’s risks management operations, and ensures performance monitoring. Eric provides leadership and strategic support to MDs to ensure strategic alignment and maintaining their credit ratings (i.e. Fitch).

As Group Executive Director – Structured Finance, he arranged guarantee syndication to address financial institutions needs and oversaw Special Projects, including assisting governments with establishing national guarantee funds to support the banking industry.

Between the years 2012 to 2017, Eric was CEO at Standard Bank Group DRC. While providing Corporate & Investment Banking leadership, he also advised multinational clients from varied sectors, ranging from telecom and natural resources to the Public sector. In addition, Eric redefined the strategy to optimize a USD 300 million balance sheet, and structured both the SME and the retail bank offerings, building a universal platform. He doubled the bank’s footprint in the DRC Copperbelt, in a country that is home to 90 million people and endowed with a natural resource reserve of USD 25 trillion. In 2012, Eric’s peers elected him Vice President of the Congolese Banking Association on the back of a Good Governance agenda, and DRC Board Director of the SADC Banking Association.

Previously, from April to August 2017, Eric spearheaded a Presidential initiative to increase financial inclusion as he established DRC’s Insurance Regulatory Authority and led the sector initial liberalization phase. Eric sits as a director of the investment firm InvesUnited (Singapore) thanks to his astute knowledge of South East-Asia Markets and his extensive global network.

From 2008 to 2012, Eric had joined the BHP Billiton M&A team in Singapore to expand the African titles portfolio. In that role, he built robust multi-commodity expertise as he arbitraged investment opportunities across multiple (> 50) large-scale (up to US$15 Billion Capital Expenditure) minerals, petroleum, and related infrastructure projects, from exploration through to full execution for the natural resources behemoth.
